This Simple Wine Glass Lanyard is a fun and easy Crochet Pattern I came up as something fun for Sage Hen Serendipity and it has turned into a pretty popular accessory among makers. 😁

Well, once the School year started, and it was clear COVID wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon… I had to take a break from the physical items. Outside creating patterns and making items for Sage Hen Serendipity, selling physical items went to the wayside and I decided to start offering patterns to you awesome people! I surveyed Insta a few months back it was a rousing 100% “Yes” to sharing this Simple Wine Glass Lanyard crochet pattern! So… Here ya go!

OK, ON TO THE PATTERN!

This Simple Wine Glass Lanyard free crochet pattern is written using standard U.S. terms. Basic stitch knowledge is assumed.

Finished Measurements (all are approximate)

  • Height: 3 inches (from the center of the holder)
  • Width (holder folded in half): 5.5 inches (from center)
  • Circumference: 11 inches (from the center of the holder)

What you need…

Yarn

  • 4- Medium | Worsted Weight Yarn; I use Lion Brand Yarn – 24/7 Cotton® Yarn Make Sure it’s cotton. anything else will stretch WAY too much.
  • For the Simple Wine Glass Lanyard, you’ll need approximately 211.5 yards (193.3 meters) – max amount.

Gauge

  • 8 sc 6 rows should measure approximately a 2” square using the 4.25 mm hook.

Notes

  • The Simple Wine Glass Lanyard is done in a continuous round (no-slip stitches for ch in each round, unless otherwise noted).

Terms to Know

SM: Stitch Marker

fsc: foundation single crochet

Ch(s): chain(s)

sc: Single Crochet

fhdc: Half Double Crochet

DC: Double Crochet

St(s): stitch(es)

* * = Repeat instructions between * and * the number of times indicated

Stitches

  • Foundation Half Double Crochet (fhdc): Chain two, yarn over (YO), insert hook into very first chain made, pull up a loop (three loops on the hook), yarn over (YO), pull through one loop (three loops on the hook), yarn over (YO), pull through all three loops on the hook. First complete. Continue this by: Yarn over (YO), insert the hook into both sides of the BOTTOM of the previous stitch, pull up a loop (three loops on hook), yarn over (YO), pull through one loop (three loops on the hook), yarn over (YO), pull through all three loops on the hook. Continue until desired length (or amount of Half Double Crochets) is acquired.
  • Foundation Single Crochet (fsc): Chain two, insert hook into very first chain made, pull up a loop (2 loops on the hook), yarn over (YO), pull through one loop (two loops on the hook), yarn over (YO), pull through all loops on the hook. First complete. Continue this by inserting the hook into both sides of the BOTTOM of the previous stitch, pull up a loop (two loops on the hook), yarn over (YO), pull through one loop (two loops on the hook), yarn over (YO), pull through all the loops on the hook. Continue until desired length (or amount of Single Crochets) is acquired.
  • Single Crochet (SC): insert into stitch, pull up a loop. Yarn over (YO) and pull through both loops on the hook.

Directions:

fsc 28, join with a slip stitch in first sc, taking care not to twist the chain (see the video below on how to do a fsc).

Working in rounds. Do NOT turn your work.

Round 1: Ch 1, sc same stitch as ch, *2sc in the same stitch, sc*; repeat ** around to last stitch 2sc in that last stitch. (42)

Round 2 – 4: Place sm in the last stitch of the previous round. Continue sc around without slst or ch, move sm as needed. (42)

Rounds 5 slst into the next st, ch3, *skip the next stitch, slst & ch3*, repeat ** around

Round 6-12 You should have a ch3 that you will *slst into the ch from the previous round, ch3*; repeat ** around in continuous rounds, moving sm each round until you reach Round 13.

Round 13: slst into the ch from the previous round. Ch1, 2 sc in the same ch 3 group as your ch1, continue with 2sc in each ch3 group around, slst into first sc DO NOT CUT OR WEAVE IN ENDS*. (42)

On to the lanyard:

From the slst at the end of Round 13, do 100 fhdc; Leave a long tail and fasten off. Fold the carrier part in half. With a yarn needle, sew the end attached to the long tail to the opposite side (make sure not to twist the lanyard). Fasten off and weave in ends.

Finishing:

Sew in gaps from the starting fsc and the first fhdc on the strap by using the ends you have not fastened off yet. Weave in ends. Sew on your tag (optional).
