I love accessories, but versatile accessories… those are the best! The Sari Scarf from Darn Good Yarn is definitely one of them. With 2021 being the year of versatile fashion, and everyone becoming even more environmentally conscious, this scarf should definitely be on your list to grab. Each scarf is unique, because they are made from 100% Reclaimed Sari Material. Plus, no two scarves are the same! They are sewn by talented artisans in India (providing employment in areas where a lot of women face discrimination). I mean how could I not want one (or two) in my collection??

nn

Another amazing thing about Darn Good Yarn itself… They create and sell products that are good for our planet (reducing impact on the environment and empowering hard working people). They want to help their customers be transformed into empowered women who know they are worthy of unique fashion, unrestricted by their size.

OK, so there are so many ways to wear scarves now, from simply draped over your shoulders to wrapped around your head like a classic Hollywood photo.

nn

I narrowed this post down to my top 4 favs.

n

Some quick notes:

    n

  • I’m 5’8″ and have a pant inseam of 35-36 inches (depending on the shoe). In all of these photos I’m wearing the Women’s (0-12) Ankle Length Skirt.
  • n

  • My clothes vary on where I get them. I buy from re-sale shops, antique shops and I do buy new as well.I try to stick to local, small businesses as much as possible (but within realistic means as well). I tend to gear towards classic styles and use new trends more so in accessories. If you want more details on the other items, comment and let me know. I can always update or create more detailed posts on individual outfits.

Fan Bow

n

This is my all time favorite, and one I like especially in the summer when I still want to wear a scarf, but not really for warmth.

Brunette in a white sun hat, sari scarf (tied in a fan bow), and a black dress.

To achieve this look, you tie a knot at one end, and gather up the other side (in a fan like gather). You then insert the gathered side into the knot creating a bow look.

nn

I like to pair this with a simple classic black dress and sun hat (sometimes I wear my yarn pom-pom earrings to add some fun to it).

The Headband

n

In this picture, I’m wearing it with a black dress, but I’ve worn this with racerback tanks and leggings. It’s a fantastically versatile way to wear a scarf, and as you can see, you can have bangs and wear this style.

A brunette with a sari scarf tied into a headband.

To achieve this look you take the scarf, and make a thin band by folding the scarf lengthwise until you have a long strip.

nn

Wrap the folded scarf around the back of your head, holding the ends out in front. Make sure you have it centered by checking that the ends come out to be the same length.

nn

Bring the ends together so they cross at the top of your head. Give it a twist so the 2 ends latch together and then wrap around toward the back of your head. Finally, tie a knot to secure it. you can wrap the scarf ends or leave as is.

Belt The Scarf

n

In 2014, this became a thing. Styled with long dresses (which I still love to do), this is perfect all year round way to wear a scarf. For summer, pair it with shorts, a summer hat and a fun blouse/tank. This really makes the scarf the front and center of your outfit, perfect for these scarves with their beautiful color and designs.

To achieve my version, I paired my scarf with a thin belt, shorts, a striped loose cotton blouse, sun hat, and my pom-pom earrings. The scarf should be draped around your neck loosely. wrap the belt around your waist and adjust the scarf so that it’s “flat” and spread out nicely to really show off the scarf.

As a belt

n

I LOVE this way to wear a scarf. Especially because I wear high waisted pants, it adds that little bit of pop and just adds to the outfit. especially if you go really simple on the outfit like I did here.

n

Brunette in a linen white shirt, linen blue high waisted pants, lace ballet flats and the sari scarf.

n

To achieve this look I went really basic with the outfit itself. I’m wearing a light linen tank with linen wide legged, high waisted pants, lace white ballet flats and the sari scarf is wrapped around my waist in an Obi-style.

nn

To tie the belt the way I did, you will wrap the belt around your waist (one side a little longer than the other). If you have belt loops, put the scarf in the belt loops first.

nn

Then, hold the shorter side in a loop, then wrap and knot the longer side, and pull tightly, adjust to fit the scarf around your waist.
