The Foundation Single Crochet or FSC is a method for beginning a project that allows you to work your foundation row (or chain row) at the same time as your first row of single crochets. It’s great for long foundation projects or when some extra give (like the bottom of the Wine Glass Lanyard Crochet Pattern) is needed that a chain start won’t have. It’s wonderfully quick and easy.

Below is the How to in writing and I have included the YouTube Video I did as well.

Before we get started…

Terms to Know

Ch(s): chain(s)

YO: YO

St(s): stitch(es)

Materials

Pattern:

1. Chain Two

chain two on bamboo hook

2. Insert hook into the very first chain made, YO, pull up a loop (two loops on hook).

2. Insert hook into the very first chain made, YO, pull up a loop (two loops on hook).

3. YO, pull through one loop (two loops on hook).

-You have now created the chain-

3. YO, pull through one loop (two loops on hook).

4. YO, pull through both loops.

-You have now created the 1st single crochet-

4. YO, pull through both loops.

The first one is complete!

Now, continue by doing the following:

5. Insert hook into both sides of the BOTTOM of the previous stitch, YO, pull up a loop (two loops on hook)

5. Insert hook into both sides of the BOTTOM of the previous stitch, YO, pull up a loop (two loops on hook)

6. YO, pull through one loop (two loops on hook)

-You have now created the next chain-

6. YO, pull through one loop (two loops on hook)

7. YO, pull through both loops

-next single crochet created-

YO, Pull Through both loops

Continue repeating 5-7 to your desired length (or amount of Single Crochets for pattern) are acquired.
