Family Theme Nights: Panama
Almost, every Sunday, we do a theme of some sort based on a Region, Country, or state. We attempt to try and find research on the country, if don’t know much about it at all, I have my son look up trivia questions, so we can learn more. My oldest Son and Daughter make a music playlist we play most of the day, but especially at dinner, and my husband and I create a menu based on the theme picked.

Note: I try to stay as authentic to the area as possible and with the knowledge, I try to find out about it. But I am definitely not an expert on the world. So if you see something that may not be true to your culture, please share it with me! I love learning about people, their past, and their food. Any information I receive, I will gladly share in each post. Or just comment below!
This Past Week’s (11/28/2021): Panama
This past Sunday, we did Panama. We’ve never done this theme before, but we have done other Central American Countries, and it’s fun to see the similarities between countries. For example, the Ropes Viejas I made is the national dish of Cuba, but is also eaten in Panama. Tostones (which, other than I no one else in the family has had) are also very prevalent around Central and Latin American Countries as well.
Let’s Start with the Music
This time, my son and daughter made the playlist. It went perfectly with dinner and we really enjoyed it in the background.

The Menu
Want more details on how I plan for meals and grocery shopping? Check out my Blog Post Called Free Printable: Grocery List & Menu I keep this one as up-to-date as possible on what I use, and even share free printables and money-saving apps to help with food planning and grocery shopping.
The Menu Breakdown (and Recipes)
All these recipes are available on the linked blogs. I didn’t really do anything to change them, they were perfect as is and I would defiantly make them again.
Appetizer: Tostones
recipe by the House of Nash
I love plantains. My family was ok with them, hahaha, but said if I made them again they would definitely eat them. Next time I need to remember to mash avocado to serve with it.
Dinner: Ropas Viejas
Recipe by Bon Appetite
This has become a favorite in our house after I made it for our Cuba theme. It’s a great way to cook tougher meats and if you want a nice and easy slow-cooker meal, this is definitely it! I seriously do everything on the bon appetite recipe, except I put it all in a slow cooker versus the oven.
The Perfect Accessory for Your Slow Cooker
I recently got the LidPocket for my slow cooker, which has become the perfect accessory! I use it every time my slow cooker is out! Bonus for you, use code 10AlwaysJenn and get 10% off your purchase!
Dessert: Resbaladera
Recipe By Hispanic Kitchen
This is was something my son and I enjoyed more than others. We liked the creaminess of it and the spices used just screamed holiday. I would definitely make this again.
