Brushing Teeth with Little Ones

For those of you that might be new here, I’m Jenn, a mom of 5 ranging from 3 years old all the way to 18, yes, that’s right, 18 years old. So I’ve been doing teeth brushing routines for a while now and one thing I’ve learned… once you think you have it down, one of your kids changes it up on you. My 2 oldest just needed fun toothpaste and they were good. My 3 youngest, on the other hand, need more than fun toothpaste to get through their teeth brushing.

For those of you that might be new here, I’m Jenn, a mom of 5 ranging from 3 years old all the way to 18, yes, that’s right, 18 years old. First and foremost, consistency is key.

I’m sure you’ve heard this a million times, but seriously, if you can stick to s schedule (for the most part) and the kids just know, 7:30 PM is time to brush your teeth, it saves a lot of headaches.

It might take some trial and error to figure out your best practice, but I have found for our girls, that 15-20 minutes before actual bedtime works best for us at night, and right after eating (before school clothes go on) is best in the morning.

Next… it’s all about the toothbrush.

It needs to be easy to hold and look cute. They also want the bristles to be soft (yes, seriously, this matters to them). Enter their new favorite brand of toothbrushes… ROARex Toothbrush.

My 7-year-old MJ has the dinosaur ones (pictured below). The set of 4 comes in 2 different colors, blue and green. They are eco-friendly and made from plants, they are biodegradable, and compostable as well. Bonus! One percent of sales are donated to 1% of The Planet.

Along with the Dinosaurs version they also offer Giraffes which are currently sold at Amazon or Target.

If you buy the ones on Amazon, you can use Promo Code: 05B6C4A50722 for 5% off either of these sets!

These are actually recommended for 4 months to 36 months, but she loves these brushes and they work really well for her, so I’m going with it. I like that they come in two different color options so you can figure out who is who’s.

Now, my 3-year-old and 5-year-old love these absolutely adorable ROARex Silicone Dinosaur Sustainable Kids Toothbrushes for Sensitive Gums (see images below). The non-slip silicone grip stegosaurus body makes them easy to hold. they’re made for sensitive gums and teeth but are also safe and chew-friendly (and if your toddler doesn’t chew the toothbrush, please share your secret). These brushes are also sustainable and made with eco-friendly materials so you can rest easy no matter which brushes you pick.

These toothbrushes are recommended for ages 2yrs – 8rs. They can actually stand sideways but fit in a glass jar as well.

Next is toothpaste

My older 2, MJ and JJ are all about unicorn sparkles, so when I found hello brand Unicorn Flourided toothpaste, I jumped on it! no dyes, just white sparkly toothpaste with a fun bubblegum flavor (Once they’re old enough, you can grab the matching Unicorn mouthwash too)!

Now, for my 3-year-old, EM, we use the hello Natural fluoride-free Watermelon toothpaste. most of the time (mainly because she still tends to swallow some of the toothpaste), but every night, I use a very small amount of the

A fun song can make all the difference.

If you’re finding it hard to keep your kids going through the entire recommended 2 minutes, try this song. It even tells you when you to switch! My girls absolutely love it and it seriously destresses a lot of teeth brushing. They know they have to keep going until the entire song is done.

At the end of the song, I do a quick “check” and brush their teeth to make sure they didn’t miss anything. Then, the girls are able to, floss and mouthwash. I help floss anyone that needs it.

That’s it! Do you have any tricks or techniques that you use to make morning/bedtime routines easier?
